Remembrance 1914

Remembrance 1914

In July 2014, whilst in London for the Monty Python concert, I made two special Remembrance journeys. The first was to Paddington Station to see this statue, part-way down platform 1, depicting a World War I soldier reading a letter from home, which officially is the Great Western Railway memorial to those who lost their lives fighting the First World War.

I'd been to Paddington Station many times before, but I'd never seen this statue before and I wanted to go to see it after reading that it was the inspiration behind a project online to invite people to write the letter the solder is reading.
