The Archimedes range of computers were a foray by Acorn into the three-box setup, namely main computer with separate keyboard and monitor. The previous attempt at this, as recently as September 1986, the Master Compact, hadn't been a particular success, but it seems that Acorn cracked it with the Arc.

There's a certain feel of the Master Compact/FileStore box here with the Archimedes main box, I've always thought. Here we can see the main features at the front: single floppy disc drive with space for a second one, name badge with power and disc activity LEDs, and hedgehog.
