This is the floppy disc drive, with an early 1987 date code, which suggests that this machine might be a pretty early Archimedes. The front bezel of the floppy drive - that's the technical name for the plastic front panel containing the disc entry slot, activity light and eject button, you know! - is not fitted to the disc drive as with many machines (including the Master Compact and FileStore) but is instead an integral part of the Archimedes casing.
