BeebMaster - BeebHelp - This is not a language

This is not a language

If you get this message on your BBC after years of faithful service then DON'T PANIC. It is not broken - one of the following three things has happened:

1. You have tried to load a filing system or utility ROM into the 6502 Second Processor language workspace.

2. You have typed *FX 142 followed by a number between 0 and 15

3. The CMOS battery on your Master has run out and needs to be replaced.

The situation is easily remedied as follows:

1. You have tried to load a filing system or utility ROM into the 6502 Second Processor language workspace.

Remedy:

Stop being silly.

2. You have typed *FX 142 followed by a number between 0 and 15

Remedy:

Type *ROMS and pick the correct number of the language you are trying to enter.

3. The CMOS battery on your Master has run out and needs to be replaced.

Remedy:

(a) Switch off and open up.

(b) Replace the battery pack with an entirely new unit.

(c) Reassemble and switch on whilst holding down the "R" key.

(d) When prompted to press BREAK, hold down the F key whilst doing so until the machine resets.

(e) You are now ready to reconfigure your machine. To get you going, try typing the following:

*CONFIGURE LANG 12
*CONFIGURE FILE 9
*CONFIGURE MODE 7

(f) Press CTRL-BREAK and you should be more or less back to normal.

(g) Now use the Welcome Disc Control Panel or issue further *CONFIGURE commands to restore your normal settings.
