On the right hand side is a curious connector sticking out which looks like the edge connector on a Master ROM cartridge.

This is the Master Compact expansion port. This was added because all the familiar underneath ports of the BBC were deleted from the Master Compact so the only way to expand it was via this port. I think there was an analogue port/user port add on produced but that was about it.
