Instead of user names and passwords, there is the facility to allocate a directory letter name to a particular station. This can be done manually when the file server is run or alternatively the allocations can be stored in a file called Names, a bit like a forerunner of the more familiar Passwords file introduced in Level 2 Econet, and this file can be edited using the FSUTIL programme on the Level 1 disc.

Firstly the programme lists the allocations already stored in the Names file.
