BeebMaster - Phil Blundell Sockets

Phil Blundell Econet Socket Boxes

And on the solder side, five terminating resistors and a capacitor, all of the surface mount type, are added.

When I photographed these socket boxes in July 2010, it clearly didn't occur to me to photograph any of the connectors in a side view, so you're probably still wondering what the funky looking modern ones are.

Or maybe not, if you have guessed that they are RJ45 sockets, to allow to boxes to be linked together with standard Cat5 cable. It's a very clever take on the good old socket box, keeping the 5-pin DIN arrangement for connecting station to the network, but eliminating all that fiddly wiring and replacing it with a very easy system of connecting them up with everyday network cables we all have lying around.

I haven't got round to using any of these yet, although they were originally purchased for use with my own main Econet to upgrade the flaky T-piece system I rigged up at Easter 2005, which still survives to this day!
