Very early on in the life of the BBC Micro disc system, third party software houses identified the limitation of 31-file discs provided by Acorn's own DFS. Many introduced solutions to this, and many of which involved storing a second catalogue on the disc which could be swapped in and out as required in order to double the number of files a disc could hold. Viglen provided such a system with the utilities disc supplied with their floppy disc drives. Theirs is the only one not requiring a utility ROM to do the swap, however.
