ADFS vs DFS Speed

On 8271 DFS on BBC B, instead of 1770 DFS on Master 128 which I had been using up to this point, the initial run with no file, then the re-run with the file, are in fact quicker, and then the immediate rerun with the drive still spinning is identical.

All in all, some interesting comparisons, with DFS performing better than ADFS. As the main advantage under ADFS is during the file opening and closing processes, there would come a point with a file large enough when the better writing performance allows ADFS to complete the whole operation quicker.

Probably the reason ADFS is slower at opening and closing the file is because of the additional overhead involved in the more complex ADFS disc structure - having to create and update directory catalogue entries and the free space map.
