Behind the drawers was a double wall socket. In fact, it still had power leads plugged into it, as the drawers are fixed to the wall, so they needed to be loosened to allow me to remove the existing leads and plug in some new mains extension cables.
The way I see it, if you are going to cover up a power socket, run a cable from it first!
