Dr. Who went global at the height of "Dalekmania" in 1965 and 1966, with motion picture adaptations of the first two Dalek stories. In fact, these were "Dalek" films rather than Dr. Who films, and the Doctor is a doddery old British inventor rather than a time-travelling alien from a distant planet.

In a curious departure for cinema versions of BBC & ITV television programmes, all the parts were re-cast for the film so we had Peter Cushing playing the lead with Ian, Barbara and Susan being played by Roy Castle, Jennie Linden and Roberta Tovey. In the second film Ian and Barbara were replaced with new characters Tom and Louise played by Bernard Cribbins and Jill Curzon.

Such a shame we didn't get to see William Hartnell playing his most memorable role on the silver screen!
