The Econet networking system has been a feature of Acorn computers almost since the company was founded. However, the idea of the dedicated Clock box came a little later, and the earliest Acorn machines had clock circuitry included as part of the Econet interface.

The Acorn System and Acorn Atom both had this feature to their Econet interfaces, as did early issues of the BBC Micro.
