The cover moves to allow access to the ROMs. The bottom-rightmost socket is a ZIF socket which makes the ROMBox very handy for frequent ROM switching, such as checking batches of EPROMs you have just programmed. Of course you have to switch the Beeb off each time you remove a chip.
