At first it looked like the day would pass without much fanfare, Buckingham Palace having calculated a year earlier the exact timing of the "longest reign" moment as accurately as possible and telling everyone that it would more than likely be a quiet day a Balmoral, just like every September of The Queen's Reign. But as the summer of 2015 got going, a little addition appeared in the Royal Diary indicating that the Scottish Borders Railway would be opened on 9th September, the Longest Reign Day.
